You’ve probably heard them say that there’s no such thing as bad publicity. Well in R. Kelly’s case this might be more or less the truth. Amidst a very shocking revelation in Surviving R. Kelly documentary, the artist seems to have just found his footing again. This is after two of his tracks “Ignition” and “I Believe I Can Fly” made their way back to Billboard’s top R&B charts. Earlier this year, Lifetime TV network began the airing of the controversial documentary Surviving R. Kelly. The biopic documents Kelly’s physical abuse allegations with real people in real interviews confirming the accusations.

At first, it seemed as if the documentary was going to ruin R. Kelly’s career as angry fans chastised his evil predatory attitude towards women. However, it appears as if the series has just done the opposite. From Billboard’s metrics, Robert’s song “Ignition” has seen a whopping 191% spike in weekly purchases since news of the documentary broke out. The song, which is currently on the 12th position of Billboard’s R&B Digital song sales chart debuted back in 2003 under his album Chocolate Factory. At the time, Ignition’s remix maintained a second position on the Billboard Hot 100 for over a month.

About 2000 copies of the song have been sold following the recent revelations on Kelly’s sexual abuse incidences. As Billboard confirmed, this is the highest number of purchase that the song has recorded since February 2016.

Despite trending for all the wrong reasons, Richard Sylvester’s popularity is growing by the minute. Nevertheless, the singer was recently dropped by Sony Music following the many protests emanating from “Surviving R. Kelly”.
