American rapper Lil Nas X has just come out as gay. He didn’t hop on a pedestal and say, hey guys, I’m gay. He merely gave clear references in a tweet on June 30.
In the tweet, the “Old Town Road” hitmaker said some peeps already know he is gay, while others don’t pretty much care; but he wouldn’t let June end without him revealing his sexual orientation. He referred fans to the song “C7osure,” which is one of the tracks in his “7” EP.
The same tweet also spots a rainbow emoji, which further makes his references clear. It is also significant he should make the post on 30 June, which marks the end of gay Pride Month.
More clues could be found in a follow-up tweet in which the rapper stated “deadass thought i made it obvious.”
He apparently did, as the headlines on the Internet literally proclaim his admission into the gay fold. He isn’t the first American rapper to come out as gay, though.
Once upon a time, the idea of being gay, and coming out as one, was greeted with horror by the society. But all that is changing, thanks in part to a robust advocacy by gay rights groups in the States and elsewhere.
In coming out as gay finally, Lil Nas X has absolutely no worries. He has got the support of a liberal society and other artistes who have come out as gay, including Deadlee and Frank Ocean. What are your thoughts on Lil Nas X‘s coming out as gay? Drop them in the comment section below.
