“Megatron” singer Nicki Minaj has just cancelled her July 18 performance at the Jeddah World Fest in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
She said in a statement that after careful pondering she has decided to not go ahead with the concert scheduled to take place at King Abdullah Sports Stadium.
She hinged her decision on the country’s dark record of human rights abuses and its treatment of the LGBT community. Her announcement follows an open letter by the Human Rights Foundation calling on her, Steve Aoki, One Direction’s Liam Payne and others to pull out of the festival.
The Human Rights Foundation hinged its call Saudi Arbia’s poor human rights record.
Nicki Minaj herself would take to Twitter to voice her worries about the country’s women rights record. In the tweet, she stated she was not aware of every single rule in the Arab and might end up doing the wrong and finding herself in the slammer.
In another tweet she would state it seemed the peeps out there purposely misunderstood her. She added they should go ahead and say they don’t like her.
Really, who doesn’t like Nicki Minaj? Having cancelled her planned performance, it is open to doubt she would change her mind. It would have been a first for her if she made it to Saudi Arabia and performed at the Jeddah World Fest in Jeddah.
By the way, on Instagram she’d asked fans their thoughts on her withdrawal from Jeddah World Fest so she could respond privately to them.
