R&B singer R. Kelly has been arrested a second time, in Chicago, and also faces a New York City Indictment.
Robert Sylvester Kelly, famously called R. Kelly has been arrested in Chicago on federal charges of child pornography, enticement of a minor, and obstruction of justice. The singer also faces a different indictment in Brooklyn, with prosecutors charging him with racketeering and sex trafficking.
His second arrest on Thursday night comes after he was released on bail five months ago for additional sexual abuse charges brought by Illinois prosecutors.
The 52 year old singer had stepped out for a smoke and also to walk his dog ‘Believe’ when he was arrested by Homeland Security Investigations agents and NYPD Public Safety Task Force.
According to the Federal Prisons Bureau website, the singer was being held at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in Chicago. A law enforcement source familiar with the case also confirms that the arrest was made around 7 p.m. local time in Chicago.
Confirming the arrest, one of his attorneys, Steve Greenberg, said;
” The conduct appears to be largely the same as the conduct previously alleges against Mr. Kelly in his current State indictment and his former State charges that he was acquitted of. Most, if not all of the conduct alleged is decades old. ”
The singer did not enter a plea for either of the indictments. Issues of how he would be detained and moved to New York will be addressed on Tuesday during his arraignment for the Illinois indictment.
Although Kelly’s attorneys hope he would be released from custody, Federal prosecutors in a detention memo, said the singer should not be granted bail pending trial.
R. Kelly’s team is hopeful he would be acquitted again as his crisis manager, Darrell Johnson says
” I’ve seen nothing, and I do mean nothing that would lead to any type of guilt. ”
