Professional boxer, Anthony Joshua is currently on a visit to Nigeria after many years overseas. Former IBF, WBA, WBO heavyweight champion, Anthony Joshua is currently in the mother land. The boxing champion and star touched down at the Murtala Muhammed international Airport in Ikeja, Lagos on thursday, July 11.
At the sight of the athlete who has made quite a huge name for himself boxing, Nigerian fans went berserk and welcomed the champ home. Joshua’s sister, Janet posted a welcome home note for her brother’s arrival. She wrote;
” Welcome home my dear brother (love emoji and a Nigerian flag) may the lord Almighty uphold you. Strengthen you and be with you. Back to the mother land. The soil of our foundation. #JoshuaGeneration. ”
Born Anthony Oluwafemi Olaseni Joshua to a Nigerian mother and a Nigerian / Irish father, Joshua is originally from Ogun State, Nigeria. He is of Yoruba descent, schooled in Nigeria till the age of 12 when his parents divorced and he moved back to the UK.
The 6 ft. 6 athlete made his boxing debut in 2013 alongside his cousin, Ben Ileyemi. With a total of 23 fights to his name, the British – Nigerian boxer has recorded a total of 22 wins and 1 loss. His only loss came from his last match against Mexican-American boxer, Andy Ruiz who he lost all three of his belts to in the seventh round.
The boxer who is yet to confirm if his rematch with Ruiz would be happening in November, was recently spotted doing carpool karaoke with Nigerian DJ, Cuppy.
