Mariah Carey passed the “record breaker’s” torch to Lil Nas X for breaking Billboard‘s most weeks at number one record.

If you were Lil Nas X in this moment, you’d probably be on the roof howling your excitement for breaking one of Billboard‘s most coveted record with your debut single. Nas X has made headlines with his miracle debut, Old Town Road but this time, the young singer/rapper is winning big time. ‘Old Town Road‘ has officially become the longest running number song ever on the Billboard hot 100 chart with a record breaking 17weeks.

Old Town Road beat out Mariah Carey‘s “One Sweet Day” and Luis Fonsi‘s “Despacito” to clinch the all time record. Who knows it might still extend the title by next week.

Mariah Carey has now figuratively passed on the record breaker torch to the young rapper who once petitioned her to hop on a remix for the hit song. In response to the petition, she playfully said, no one would want to her that. Not minding previous opinions that she was being petty due to her response, the record breaking singer shared an Instagram post in honour of Nas X’s new record. She congratulated the young rapper on the new feat with a funny photo of her passing the torch to him. She wrote;

Sending love & congrats to @lilnasx on breaking one of the longest running records in music history! We’ve been blessed to hold this record with a song that means a great deal to @BoyzIIMen and myself and has touched so many. Keep living your best life! (heart) One Sweet Day will always hold a special place in my heart and I want to thank anyone who’s ever told me how this song has affected them and their loved ones.”

Lil Nas X shared a screenshot of the post with the caption “Legend“.
