Jermaine Dupri Throws Shade At Lil Nas X, Says “You Can’t Sit With Us”

by Florence Tolulope

Following Lil Nas X‘s recent defeat of Mariah Carey as the longest-running No. 1 in the Billboard charts record award, which he hit with his record-shattering “Old Town Road“, multi-hyphenate artist, Jermaine Dupri see it as no big deal as he decided to throw shade at the owner of the crown instead of celebrating him.

Taking to his Twitter handle on Wednesday, August 7, the So So Def founder, who appeared unconvinced about the whole thing, cast off the 20-year-old breakout star as he praised Carey‘s legacy.

“No!! You can’t sit with us, go sit over there and based on the stats and this chart, @mariahcarey is the greatest songwriter in history” – he wrote.

While JD‘s reaction to Lil Nas X‘s success appears to be a teardown of one to prop up another, the defeated Carey, on the other hand, chose to celebrate her blossoming successor.

“Sending love & congrats to @lilnasx on breaking one of the longest-running records in music history! We’ve been blessed to hold this record with a song that means a great deal to @BoyzIIMen and myself and has touched so many. Keep living your best life!” – she wrote on her Instagram.

Lil Nas X‘s Old Town Road” which he dropped last December blown into popularity as it has been remixed four times with a wide array of artists, ranging from superstar Billy Ray Cyrus, Diplo, Young Thug and others, contributing to the waves. This undoubtedly makes it surpass Carey’s previous record of 16 weeks at No. 1, “One Sweet Day” where she featured Boyz II Men and Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee‘s “Despacito” with Justin Bieber.
