Ludacris has been tapped to star in the modern adaptation of ‘John Henry‘ alongside Terry Crews.
It’s great news for American actor, Terry Crews and Rapper / Actor Ludacris whose casting in a new film adaptation of the folklore, John Henry has recently been made public. The news comes after Saban Films Picked up the North American rights to the dramatic thriller, John Henry. The film is expected to star Terry Crews as the titular character and Ludacris.
Reports by The Hollywood Reporter states that the upcoming thriller will be directed by Will Forbes, who co-wrote the script with Doug Skinner. This would be Forbes‘s directorial debut. In a statement, Bill Bromiley of Saban Films said;
“The tale of John Henry is classic and legendary for many. Terry and Ludacris’ performances are particularly inspiring, and we are delighted to share this contemporary telling with our audiences.”
The upcoming film retells the legendary tale in a different light. It follows John Henry, played by Terry Crews who abandons a crime-riddled life for a peaceful one in Los Angeles. There he comes across two immigrant kids who are on the run from the leader of his former gang. This forces him to confront the violence he’s been known for in other to save the kids.
The upcoming film is Executive produced by Crews and Ludacris with Matthew Antoun and Mark Strome, and DJ Quick. The film is also produced by Eric B. Fleischman from Defiant studios, Maurice Fadida from Kodiak Pictures and Brian Kavanaugh-Jones from Automatik, and is expected to be released in the first quarter of 2020.
