If you didn’t know, a Wu-Tang biopic series is currently airing on Hulu and it is co-created by the RZA. The new biopic which was screened at Hulu’s Paleyfest event in Los Angeles, CA. on Tuesday Night premiered on Sept. 4. According to the RZA every member of the group was adequately involved in the creative process of the biopic, and not one idea was left out.
He also revealed that the Wu-Tang Clan had a “weekly Wu Wednesday call” throughout the making of the biopic. After the screening, the RZA talking about the group members’ contribution to the series said “Good, bad or ugly, we discussed we talked, I filled them in.” He added, “Whoever was in town, if they wanted to hop into the writers’ room, they could”.
Variety reports that the upcoming biopic co-created by Robert “the RZA” Diggs is centered on him as “he worked to unite a dozen disparate black men during the height of the crack cocaine epidemic to abandon crime for their musical passions“.
The new biopic is a limited drama series set in the 1990s in New York City. It portrays detailed events behind the rise of the iconic hip-hop group. Wu-Tang‘s Method Man also executive produces the show.
Speaking on encouraging input from group members, Divine and Power, the RZA said;
“If you look at any Wu-Tang album, on the back you’ll see the producer is Power and Divine, so the door was open for them to come in”.
