Beyoncé‘s new documentary is not a Netflix special. This time around, it’s coming to ABC and it’s giving fans access to how The Gift album was created. The new documentary will be called Making The Gift; it was announced by ABC. Making The Gift is set to air today, Monday September 16.

The new TV special is reportedly an hour long and will show the singer’s “creative process” as she put together the soundtrack album (The Gift) for the very successful Lion King live action movie. The album has been dubbed the singer’s gift to Africa, which it is indeed.
In a press statement, ABC revealed that the documentary will contain footage from the album’s recording sessions, including interviews and more. The new documentary is produced and co-directed by Bey alongside Ed Burke who also worked on her Netflix special, Homecoming.
In an interview with ABC, the iconic singer spoke about the curating the album, calling it an “authentic’ showcase of the continent’s sounds mixed with ‘some of the producers from America”. According to NME. She said “I wanted to make sure we found the best talent from Africa, and not just use some of the sounds and did my interpretation of it.”
The Gift Album was executive-produced by Bey, and featured contributions from various African and American artists including, Jay-Z, Childish Gambino, Pharrell Williams, Yemi Alade, Wizkid, Burna Boy, Tierra Whack, Kendrick Lamar, Shatta Wale, and more.
The album debuted at number two on the Billboard 200. Two songs including Spirit and Bigger have been released to promote it.
