How does one describe a track that has some of the best names in African music as features? What word or phrase, exactly, suits Young D‘s latest single, “Angela,” featuring Yemi Alade, Harmonize, Flavour, Gyptian & Singuila?
I think I should settle for international gathering of champions – IGOC. The phrase is not unique, though. I borrowed it from one of Pastor Matthew Ashimolowo‘s gatherings, and I think it suitable. You might too.
For one, there’s not an obscure figure in the list of features. The lead artiste himself, Young D, is a celebrated singer and producer. Should we be surprised he should elect to handle the production himself?
A notable figure in Tanzanian music, Harmonize, of the WCB Wasafi collective, is the mastermind of “Niteke,” “Show We What You Got (Remix),” featuring Nyashinski and Yemi Alade, who happens to be on this track as well.
Yemi Alade, who recently dropped “Bounce,” made the cut in Beyonce‘s “Lion King” album.
Flavour brings his lyrical flavour to the beat. The same may be said of Gyptian and Singuila.
The idea behind “Angela” is not public knowledge, but whatever Young D was aiming for, he probably achieved it – or came close to doing so. “Angela” is an ambitious track that will never have to struggle for fans. Instantly adorable. The track is one to be listened to and remembered for a long time to come.
