His was one death that left many lachrymal – not only because he was a mere 20-year-old lad but because he was a pylon of talents as well, one who found fame early and ended up working with some of the big names in the game, including Kanye West.
XXXTENTACION may be gone, but he is certainly not forgotten. He’s got a legacy that’s been living after him and will forever live after him. At 20 he already has a staggering body of work, which means that although the world might miss his physical presence, the world has yet got the spirit of his music for company.
For one, XXXTENTACION’s hitherto unreleased songs are beginning to see the light of day, as the administrators of his estate share from the trove the rapper left behind.
Already, “Royalty,” a collaborative single with Ky-Mani Marley, Stefflon Don and Vybz Kartel, has been released, and there are plans to release more works in the coming days.
By the way, “Arms Around You,” a song for which the Florida rapper, alongside Lil Pump, tapped the vocal powers of pals Maluma and Swae Lee, is not a new one. It was released in late 2018 following XXXTENTACION’s confession in a clip, shared by Pitchfork, in which he detailed beating his girlfriend and leaving her scared for her life.
In this sense, the song’s message might pass as ironic indeed. But who is complaining? Not the core fans of the slain rapper. Enjoy the bop for what it is.
