Black American star, Willow Smith drops highly anticipated album, Willow and it’s a dream.
When the Smiths make a statement, the whole world listens. No, let’s rephrase, when the Smiths drop an album, the whole world listens. Willow is all grown up now and probably tired of whipping her hair, she’s got dreads now, those could be a pain to whip.
We practically watched the 18 year old last child of the Smith clan grow into the woman she is now. We’ve also seen her music mature from the energetic bop it used to be into this soothing alternative jam that it has become.
Famous for singles, Whip My Hair and 21st Century Girl, Willow released her debut album, Ardipithecus way back in December, 2015. The album was followed by a second studio album, The 1st released in 2017. The 1st featured vocals from Chloe Bailey and Halle Bailey, and also vocals and production from Devonte Hynes.
Her newly released album, WILLOW dropped on the 19th of July through MSFTSMUSIC and Roc Nation. The eight track album features contributions from friend, Tyler Cole and brother, Jaden Smith (who dropped his new album ERYS a few weeks back).
The eight track album was written and produced by Willow alongside Tyler Cole. The record was announced via Willow‘s social media page with the promotional tour dates released four days later.
The alternative album features themes on relationship, female empowerment and being born in the wrong generation. Her brother, Jaden is featured on the album’s seventh track, U Know, a slow tempo dreamy track.
Since its release, the album has reached number on the alternative charts and number 13 on Apple Music.
